An Orgasmic Eco-Friendly TV

The Dirt:
How big is your—television? Is that a sign of something else, like the sporty ride purchased during a midlife crisis or the many diamonds a woman may covet for the Nth wedding anniversary? Mitsubishi is just one of many companies catering to the demand for televisions bigger than most buyers’ children. Nevertheless, they’ve added a few elements to make the purchase a bit less guilt ridden. (We recommend SAVING for this purchase, not blindly charging.)
The Mitsubishi Electric Laser Vue has been around since fall 2008. Fall 2009 will see the company launch the 65-inch Diamond in the third quarter and a 73-inch television later. The 3D-ready televisions use a light source based on laser technology that allows for more vivid colors. The thin televisions also use about 50% less energy than similar size LCD screens and about one-third of that consumed by most plasmas. Superior color and a near monstrous size help this screen take over the room. If what you want is the ultimate at-home viewing experience, this may be worth saving for.
Bonus:
For the first 5,000 Facebook and Twitter users to join the LaserVue Carbon Neutral group or follow its Twitter page, MDEA will apply one dollar per person (up to $5,000) toward the purchase of 500 “carbon offsets” from the nonprofit organization, Bonneville Environmental Foundation. The revenue from the campaign will be reinvested by BEF to support creating new renewable energy sources and watershed restoration projects.
