The Dirt:
The ultimate gift for a tech-obsessed dad may also be a gift to mom if it truly cuts the electricity bill. For this, we turn to Monster, a manufacturer of cable and surge protector items geared at the home theater snob. Often times, this is a guy, one who surfs the Web looking for chat rooms where he can find information on the best cables, outlets, speakers and more that sounds like physics to us. That is until we learned about Monster and their new Digital PowerCenters with Monster GreenPower, for home theater systems.
These new items help organize all the incoming cables with labels and colors, and save energy by recognizing the connectivity between devices, such as the television, surround sound system and the DVD player. The HDP 850G and 900G models help save energy by automatically shutting off home theater items when they are not in use. This means instead of the standby mode that will continue to consume electricity, it shuts off related the main item and related components. When the display gadget is turned on, the central power unit turns the other components on. How low-maintenance is that?

The new HDP 850G and 900G strips retail for a reasonable $99.95 and $129.95. For more information or to see other products, visit the Monster website.
