From Middle East To America: The Pomegranate Path

From the Middle East and North Africa to Europe and America’s West Coast, pomegranate is a study in the range of agriculture and beauty. One of the first fruits touted as a superfruit, as kids, we knew pomegranate as the fruit that would stain our clothes. Hard to peel but delicious, I long thought of pomegranate as one of Israel’s natural resources. However, the latest irresistible body care offering from Weleda is a pomegranate line with fruit oil sourced from Turkey.

Weleda’s Pomegranate Regenerating Body Care line is comprised of a hand cream, a body wash and a body oil. If this line is as nourishing Weleda’s sea buckthorn line, my current wash-oil duo of choice, it is sure to satisfy. Pomegranate oil has innate fatty acids and antioxidants which supposedly help maintain elasticity and firmness. The oil is blended with essential oils of vanilla, sandalwood, blood orange and neroli for an invigorating creamy body wash. Following the shower, use the body oil, which includes organic macadamia oil and jojoba seed oil. Finally, a great product to keep at work for use after handwashing, the hand cream includes shea butter, and avocado and olive oils.
The collection comes out in October 2009 and is available at Target, Whole Foods Market and various health food stores. The hand cream is $12.50, the body wash is $18 and the body oil is $28. For more on Weleda, click here.
