Save Plastic, Buy Clear2Go

The bottled water industry seems harmless but is actually an intricate market sector that is said to have potentially saved the beverage sector. There are plenty of unconfirmed rumors about its start, including the theory that bottled water was originally intended for people in developing nations without access to safe water. However, that idea would not have done much for the bottom line. Whatever the truth, the multi-billion industry has created some excellent products, that is at the expense of you, the consumer, and the environment, thanks to the increased plastic consumption. So, how does one save money and plastic?

bottle

There’s always the option of a reusable bottle, first pioneered by the outdoor folks in search of modern-style canteens they could take on camping and hiking trips. However, news of potential health issues associated with the reuse of disposable plastic bottles has led the mainstream consumer sector to purchase aluminum and BPA-free plastic bottles. Yet, those bottles, while a positive move for one’s wallet and the environment, do not address the issue of purification. That’s why we turn to Clear2Go. The Florida-based marketer behind this innovative filter-cum-water bottle, Applica, has experience in the appliance market and counts the George Foreman Juiceman as one of its brands.

The Clear2Go looks like a modern update on the traditional plastic sports water bottle. The 24-ounce BPA-free bottle removes up 99% of microbial cysts and filters up to 100 gallons. According to the company, using the bottle and filter to capacity is the same as consuming 757 half-liter (about 16 oz) plastic bottles. Imagine piling those up and then take a moment to think how quickly you’d cut your carbon footprint simply by avoiding buying more plastic bottles. Amid the recession, we also appreciate the potential cost savings. Say you spend about $5 a week on a few water bottle purchases. That’s $260 a year. If you are a family and each spend that, imagine the cell bills you’d cover or the charity you could participate in. Donate money to a charity that builds wells in Africa and you can actually help save lives by providing clean water, thereby helping to lower malaria rates.

So, what’s the damage? The bottle, which comes in red, green, blue and grey, costs $16.99, with one filter included. A two-pack of filters is $11.99. For more information on the bottles or to buy one, click here.

We have not researched these organizations in depth, but according to their websites, they are all 501 (c) 3 non-profit organizations.
