If you know nothing else about J-Dilla, know that he was a genius. When you mention his name to hip-hop producers, they know who he is. They have followed in his steps and want to be like him when they grow up. This three CD set is truly for any hip-hop lover. It shows that Dilla has created an impressive incredible amount of productions with the likes of Erykah Badu, Common, The Roots, and Janet Jackson.

The first CD is full of popular productions including Common’s The Light and Erykah Badu’s Didn’t You Know. A standout is “Dollar” by Steve Spacek.

The second CD features remixes. Standouts include Oblighetto, As Serious As Your Life, and Sitting On Crome. His remakes are the best. They remind me of old-school hip-hop beats; you can hear it in every remix.

The third CD from this trilogy is the best. You are able to truly hear the creativity and genius with these raw beats. The songs Workinonit, Baby, Won’t Do, and Crushin’ are by far the standouts on this disc.  My favorite song is So Far to Go by Common. I’ve loved this song ever since the first time I heard it. That is the song that introduced me to J-Dilla.

This box set is the ultimate overview of all things Dilla for newcomers and ultimate fans. Every song in this collection is unique in its own way: gorgeous melodic beauty at its best.
