Following the news of the 7.0 earthquake on the Caribbean island nation of Haiti, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt issued a statement saying they are going to work with “friend” Wyclef Jean to help the people of Haiti. The statement expressed their sorrow over the lives lost due to the natural disaster. They have been to Haiti to help with Jean’s charity, Yele Haiti, and will work with him and his organization to aid the victims.
According to The New York Times, as of December 12, the quake is the worst in the area in about 200 years and though numbers are not out yet, the casualties are expected to be high. Many are believed to be still trapped under the rubble. The U.S. and many other countries are prepared to send humanitarian aid, alongside a United Nations peacekeeping force, as crime is reportedly already increasing.
If you’d like to donate money, in addition to the usual Red Cross, we recommend Doctors Without Borders.
