The blues isn’t for everyone, but this Louisiana native and longtime Texas resident offers a sound that stirs the souls of many, be they in love with or indifferent about the soulful genre. Long John Hunter likely has his family’s sharecropper roots to thank for inspiration and musical ties to reference for his melodic talents, having met and worked with legends including B.B. King and Buddy Holly back in the day.

Hunter, unlike many contemporary artists, seems to be about quality not quantity, having just released his eighth album in 21 years. Looking for a Party was produced by Dennis Walker, who among other work, co-produced a Grammy-winning album an album for the legendary Robert Cray. What separates Hunter from the pack is his desire to produce work that is upbeat, something not commonly found in country or blues tunes. This album has a unique presence that makes it great for roadtrips or a long days at the office. The album was produced by Blues Express and distributed by City Hall Records and is available of for $9.99 on iTunes and Amazon.
We also recommend checking out the digital-only 1% for the Planet album, which is a great compilation of music that will enable many to explore new musicians while supporting the planet. The digital-only album, whose medium prevents paper and plastic waste, is just $9.99 for 41 songs donated by the artists, including Jack Johnson, Mojave, Lori McKenna, and Jackson Browne. The collection includes songs from many genres from folk to alternative, which too make for a great roadtrip album. Click here to support music and our planet.
