Cal Poly Pomona has received $42 million from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to fund a new endowment to improve access to educational opportunities. According to the Foundation’s President and CEO, Sterling Speirn, “Mr. Kellogg was a strong believer in higher education, and his vision of ‘investing in people’ has translated into the foundation’s fundamental belief that access to a high-quality education is vital to enhancing the lives of vulnerable youth.”
The grant will be delivered over a five-year period with a focus on targeting “underrepresented communities in Southern California,” such as those to be the first to attend college, military veterans, or emancipated foster youth.
Earlier this year, Kellogg also conducted a survey and determined that about two-thirds of those questioned think school food is poor 0r fair at best and think childhood obesity is a problem in the U.S. Click here to read the announcement about the survey.
