Runway backstage beauty shots are flooding inboxes as the fashionistas takeover Lincoln Center. Deep plum lips seem popular as a contrast to floaty, ethereal makeup on the cheeks and eyes. But what really won me over were the hairstyles with a bit of frizz. Braids seemed to be trendy and they’re the wearable variety, whether traditional and tidy, or inverse and chaotic.
CONTROLLED CRAZY
SEGUE
STYLED CHAOS
For Ann Yee‘s Autumn/Winter 2012 collection, hairstylist Marcos Diaz (of ION Studio) created a tribal-inspired look that transcends time.
What’s great about these styles is they are the beauty world’s manifestation of the current state of the world and the extremes that seem to be the zeitgeist in every sector, from economics to style. Poor vs. rich, athletic vs. glamazon, developed vs. developing. At least in beauty, though, we can buy change and make it happen overnight… Primp on ladies.
